Living in Colombia
I have always been an active individual even since I was a small child and started my life-long love of playing soccer. However when I moved to Cali, Colombia in 2008 I discovered an adventurous side of me that I never knew existed. Colombia has an immense amount of biological diversity ranging from desert landscapes, Pacific and Atlantic coasts, snowy mountain caps, to Amazon rain forests. This country created in me a love and respect for nature.

However, the greatest opportunity living in another country has provided me is immersing myself in another culture and language than my own. I believe cultural immersion to be one of the most rewarding life experiences a person

can have as it allows oneself to reflect on the good and bad of their own culture and upbringing, evaluate the new culture and way of life, and then begin to mix the two and thus diversify one’s culture and worldview.
Living here has given me a new respect for the differences between others and myself and has provided me a new perspective from which to process the world. I learned a new language in order to make more connections with the people around me, I learned to love listening and dancing to Latin music such as salsa, merengue, and bachata (or even the latest dance craze invented in Colombia and flourishing in Cali called Salsa choke).

However the most important opportunity I’ve had is meeting my wife, Bonny, and starting our family with the arrival of our daughter, Samantha, on June 11th of 2015.
These new experiences in combination with my American culture have helped me grow into the unique
individual I am today. I would advise any person with the opportunity to live in another country to try it. Jump into the adventure with an open mind and heart and allow your personal convictions to be challenged and transformed.
